The group, made up of five of Ireland’s leading young professional brass players, will be performing a varied program of works from the brass quintet repertoire. Hailing from Dublin, Kildare, Cork and Belfast, Niall O Sullivan (Trumpet) David Collins (Trumpet) Stephen Nicholls (French Horn) Eoghan Kelly (Trombone) and Jonathan Gawn (Tuba) all originally met while playing with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, many years ago, before pursuing their individual careers and recently formed the Irish Brass Ensemble to perform chamber music at the highest level of excellence, and to promote and encourage appreciation of the art of brass chamber music in Ireland. The group’s members are all currently performing regularly with prestigious orchestras and ensembles in Ireland, Scotland, England and Europe, including the RTE Symphony and Concert Orchestras, London Symphony Orchestra, The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Irish Film Orchestra, Philharmonie den Natien, Moscow Chamber Orchestra and Wexford Opera Festival Orchestra. Jonathan Gawn (Tuba) and Stephen Nicholls (French-Horn) currently hold positions with the Scottish Ballet and the Irish Chamber Orchestra, respectively, and are the first Irish brass players to do so. Individually, members of the group have received numerous awards, scholarships and prizes. Each member of the group has been a recipient of the Guinness Brass Bursary, the leading award for solo brass playing Ireland. The Irish Brass Ensemble are in Cork in November and December as part of the Music In Schools program for West | Cork |Music and Cork County Council.

New Irish chamber music group the Irish Brass Ensemble will perform their debut recital in Cork at 8pm on Friday 27th of November in the Stack Theatre, Cork School of Music, Union Quay, Cork. Tickets are available on the night for €8 and a concession price of only €5.
