‘Imagine that….!’ is the title of the Cork Pops Orchestra’s Autumn Concerts 2011 for Schools’ series, devised and presented by Evelyn Grant.

The concert is an opportunity to come out and experience an exciting ‘live’ musical performance; see the instruments of the orchestra; singalong with the Cork Pops – with the song lyrics projected on screen. Class-room resources include a set of teachers’ notes and CD, providing background notes to the music being performed and accompaniments for the audience participation songs and whistle tunes. This material can be used throughout the year in the classroom.

The concerts will take place in City Hall, Cork. Places are available for Primary shows Tuesday February 28th.

Tickets are 8 euro per student. Teachers and SNA’s are free. We are offering a 10% discount on the total.

These themed concerts are designed to inspire, entertain and educate young people, giving them the opportunity to see live orchestral instruments and discover music of many genres and across several centuries and cultures.

The orchestra’s much loved ’cello-playing gorilla has enjoyed a central role in the orchestra – by popular demand – since he starred in a concert called ‘Peter and the Wolf and other animals’ many years ago.

As the orchestra explores treasures of the classical music repertoire, students will discover that they are more familiar with it than they realised – through film, television and video games. Plenty of audience participation is always encouraged.

The teachers’ notes and CD will provide lots of ideas on how to use the popular songs on the programme to enhance other areas of the curriculum; tips on what to listen for in the music; and show how the structure of inspirational music from hundreds of years ago is rooted in the music of today.
